Mini Will Build Paceman, Plus One More Model

January 12, 2011 at 2:35 pm by Justin Berkowitz

The Mini Paceman concept shown at the 2011 Detroit auto show is headed for production, according to Mini USA V-P Jim McDowell.?The crossover coupe—either a Mini Cooper hardtop on stilts or a two-door Countryman, depending on your point of view—will bring the company’s body-style count to seven, as it joins the original hatch, the four-seat convertible, the longer Clubman, the Countryman crossover, and the upcoming two-seat coupe and roadster.

But, McDowell tells us, there’s still one more variant to add to the lineup. The company isn’t ready to make announcements yet—understandably it wanted all eyes on the Paceman for the time being—but McDowell says the eighth Mini will be a “natural fit” for the brand. Whether that means a production version of the Mini Moke–style?Beachcomber concept, a convertible Paceman, or something else, we can’t say. But so long as it’s not an electric date-terminator, we’ll be happy.
