General Motors has expanded an earlier recall from last month over a potential problem with the rear axle/suspension, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Affected models include the 2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe; and GMC Canyon, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL. While the initial recall affected only 1,262 vehicles (and all the vehicles were trucks), now 26,751 vehicles (including SUVs) are affected.
In the affected vehicles, the rear axle cross pin was not manufactured correctly. As a result, the pin could fracture and become displaced within the rear axle, causing the axle to lock up. This condition could make maintaining direction control difficult, increasing the likelihood of an accident without prior warning.
GM is expected to begin the recall Jan. 25. Dealerships will install a new rear axle cross pin free of charge on affected vehicles. Jan 17, 2011 10:28:19 PMIt's sad that when Toyota owners incorrectly installed floor mats into their vehicles, caused the majority of crashes under their own doing, and an American company made faulty accelerator parts...to which was found not to be faulty, the media was awash with Toyota bashing galore.
When GM has yet another in a STRING of dangerous recalls such as this one, millions of Fords with switch fire problems that have yet to be fixed, and Chrysler workers drinking on the job mum's the word from big media outlets (TV stations,Newspaper, etc) EXCEPT from Cars.com. They report regardless of who's feelings are hurt. Kudos to you.

The reason Ford hasn't fixed all "suspect brake switches is because some number of these vehicles in question are still on the road and haven't been brought in by owners. Some number also junked. This info was published some time back in the press.

You can blame the consumer all you like but the FACT is that there are still millions of the switch fire plauged vehicles on the roads and they were made by Ford. Next time consider this fact before personally attacking.
